Adding A Bar To Your Basement 0
Adding a bar to ones basement is a task that can easily be completed in one weekend with a little help from friends and a plan in hand. You will want to know the size of your planned bar before starting, the types of hardware you wish to incorporate, and how you are going to power the fridge. Once you have decided on all of these things than you can get started.
The first thing you will need to do is secure a footer to the floor, this will keep the bar from falling over. Secure this footer with concrete nails or screws every six inches or so. When you have completed this you can begin framing the base of your bar around this footer. The best way to do this is to build the base in sections and then assemble and secure them to the footer. Once you have the base framing constructed you should wire and install any planned for plumbing before covering the framing with your choice of facade.
This wiring needs to be installed on a GFCI to be code compliant and, more importantly, safe. The GFCI will trip if any water or such causes a short in the circuit, thus preventing a potentially lethal electric shock. If you do not know how to properly install this device please call a contractor to have it done.
The plumbing for a bar is rather simple, it consists of a drain that can either empty into a storage pail for later disposal,or drain into your existing household plumbing, and a supply pipe for the CO2 and beverages. The type of supply pipe will depend on your system and should mostly come with any dispensing system that you purchase. The main thing you will need to look for here, is how much line you have in relation to where you are storing the beverage.
Once you have the plumbing done you can install your facade and bar top. Now the only thing left is to pull up a barstool and pay your helpful friends back for a job well done!
