This wonderful discovery happened on December 1, 1971 and since that time Lonesome George has been moved to the Charles Darwin Research Station in an effort to protect this one of a kind tortoise. Currently they are offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who can find a female pure bred Pint Island Tortoise to breed George with.

This next creature is one of those rare weird animals that I never even knew existed until just a few months ago. It is called the Giant Gippsland Earthworm. These giant earthworms which are capable of growing to lengths of up to 10 feet are only found in one location in the small Bass River Valley of South Gippsland in Australia. If this giant earthworm was not weird enough there is an even larget species in South Africa. The Giant South African Earthworm currently holds the world record for the largest earthworm on the planet. It measured an amazing 22 feet long!
