Aproova Sagodharargal is a Tamil movie starring Kamal Hassan. The film was so successful that it was dubbed and added to Hindi film only a year after its production. The 1989 film is an extremely successful cult classic. Its Hindi dub is named Appu Raja, and was completed in 1990.
The story begins with Sethupathy, a good police officer who is sincere and honest with his job. He arrests Francis Anbarasu, Nallasivam, Satyamoorthy, and Dharmaraj, all of whom are important people. They kill Sethupathy and poison his wife, intent on murdering her as well. The wife escapes, desperate to live, as she is pregnant with Sethupathy’s children. Later, a woman serves as a midwife, helping with the birth, but they are separated, each protecting one of the twins. The sons, Raja and Appu are raised in entirely different environments.
Appu is born a dwarf, and is a member of the circus. When he is rejected by the circus owner’s daughter, Appu is heartbroken and miserable about his height. Appu, convinced that no one could love a dwarf, attempts to commit suicide. His mother finds him and intervenes, revealing to her son the true reason behind his dwarfism. She tells him about the poison force-fed to her while she was pregnant, possibly causing the mutation in Appu. He is inspired by newfound fury at the murderers of his father, deciding to avenge his death by killing the four who were responsible for his fathers death.
Appu begins his murderous rampage, as Raja (who is identical to his smaller twin) and Janaki, Raja’s true love, are caught in the crossfire. Kamal Hassan plays the twins and their father, to help show to the audience the extreme resemblance between the three men. The Tamil movie is tragic and heartbreaking, as the plot unfolds and takes turns that leave the audience spellbound.
