Ever bring a group of new hires into a meeting with more senior members of the team and feel the awkwardness? Ever have a whole team of people new to the department and no one knows each other so everyone is quiet? That awkwardness or silence is tension because people are not familiar with each other, and to feel that tension is perfectly natural for us as humans. We don’t like change. We don’t like new things. So the goal of icebreaker games is to change those new people into a vital member of the team so they don’t feel new anymore.

Traditionally, it took weeks or even months before a new member of the team felt just like one of the senior members, but that was before the trend of fun group games came about. When a team of people, new members and not so new members included, play a game together that is challenging and/or fun, the team begins to feel and work like an actual team. There aren’t any new people or old people. It’s just one functioning team.

Icebreaker games can be simple or complex, depending on your situation. A great one to start off with is a beanbag game. The person throwing the beanbag has to say the name of the person they are throwing it to, then that person has to throw it to someone else and say that person’s name – and around and around it goes. See? Simple! And doing this will allow your team members to not only become more comfortable with one another, but they will begin to know a little bit more about each other and how they work both separately and as a team. Once your team can function both independently and as a team, then the goal of the icebreaker games has been accomplished.

When guys walk down memory lane, perhaps one of the fondest memories they will have were the time spent playing Airfix toy soldiers. A boy’s childhood would not be complete without the miniature Napoleonic plastic figures, Waterloo dioramas or World war II battlefields displayed somewhere in his room or laying around the living room carpet.

Toy soldiers from Airfix have always been a part of a young boy’s life, and some even carried out their fascination through adulthood.

Founded in 1939, Airfix is a manufacturing company producing excellent quality plastic scale model like the HO/00 toy soldiers. These plastic figures represented good value for money, and after a few years, created other subjects such as 1:32 scale polythene toy soldiers. Airfix is one, if not the most popular brand throughout the decades and up to this day. Its appeal to young boys and adults are incomparable. Their scale models include flagships, war planes, military vehicles and regiment soldiers.

Collecting classic and new toy soldiers has become a substantial hobby. Collectors often prefer a specific type of soldier or a historical event. Although some are fond of collecting different scale model soldiers, the most collectible are historical periods such as Victorian, Napoleonic, WW I, WW II, and the American Civil war.

The company is re-launching its widely popular classic 1:32 scale military figures which will surely delight the kids and the kid at hearts adults. The same moulds were used as the original scale models, but they opted for ‘K-Resin’ plastic which is easier to paint than Polythene. Each box will contain 14 unpainted figures in different war-like poses such as firing rifles and soldiers chucking grenades.

The first sets of 1:32 scale models that would hit the market are German Infantry, US Infantry, British Commandos, German Paratroops, British army, Afrika korps And British Paratroops. Collecting, painting and playing toy soldiers provide immense enjoyment amongst Airfix toys enthusiasts.

Besides the 1:32 scale models, you can also purchase the 1:72 toy soldiers WWII German Afrika korp 48 piece set 1711. Included in the classic boxed set are 48 figures in 15 different poses, like troops with machine gunner, officers, riflemen, prisoners and so much more. The latest release also includes 2 new gift sets. Each contains Humbrol Acrylic paints, Humbrol Precision Poly and Paint brushes. However, it is only ideal for children above 8 years of age.

The success of Aifix toy soldiers is unparallel. Many manufacturers have come and go, but quality scale models made from Airfix stood the test of time.

The Mini RC Helicopter is a small radio controller, motorized replica of a helicopter. They fly on the same principal as helicopters allowing omni-directional flight. A Mini RC Helicopter has a main rotor and tail rotor, again much like its larger counter-part.

The main rotor is the most important part of an RC Helicopter; this is the rotor which is located at the top of the helicopter. The main rotor is responsible for the upward thrust of the helicopter allowing it to lift of the ground, change altitude and even successfully make turns. The adjustability of a helicopters main rotor is thanks to something called a Swash Plate which consists of two main parts; the rotating plates and the fixed plates. The Mini RC Helicopter often refers to this adjustable feature as “trimming” or to adjust the “trim” to properly balance out the helicopter.

The trail rotor is the second main component on a helicopter and allows for the ability to rotate the helicopter on the drive shafts’ axis. In a traditional helicopter the trail rotor would be controller by two foot pedals which the pilot operators accordingly; in the RC helicopter this is controller with a directional control stick and the main rotor is controller by a vertical control stick.

The Mini RC Helicopter receives and interprets the movement requests from the handheld controller and adjusts the main rotor and tail rotor accordingly to allow the proper movement of the mini helicopter in an omni-directional fashion.

RC Helicopters are generally easy to fly and operate although each one requires a unique skill level. Many operate on rechargeable internal batteries and are very lightweight therefore they operate best indoors because the stronger wind may carry the mini helicopter in the outside environment and interfere with its ability to maneuver properly.

Mini RC Helicopters are great collectibles and hobby toys which provide limitless fun. They are commended for anyone who enjoys flying and aviation in generally.

The games that inspired the creation of Gogos Crazy Bones come from Ancient Greece, where children used to play such games in the streets with old animal bones. Luckily the large range of small, colourful Gogos are a lot more hygienic and pleasant on the eye than the animal bones of old. They can be bought in packs of two or three from pocket money and can be collected, traded and played with at home or in the school playground. Here are a few of the games that can be played with these funny little characters.

Traditional – players take it in turns to throw their Gogos into the air at the same time. If any land standing up, you score 5 points, for any that land on their side you get 2 points and for any that land face up you get 1 point.

Battle – each player places his Crazy Bones in lines of six or seven leaving a fair space between each players army. Players then flick one of their own Gogos towards their opponents in an attempt to knock their pieces down. Whoever knocks their opponents pieces down first wins as long as they have a Gogo still standing.

On-The-Line – this game starts with one player drawing a straight line on the ground. Each player then throws, not rolls, one of their Bones towards the line. Whoever manages to get their character closest to the line wins.

Bowling – just like with 10 pin bowling, each player places an agreed number of Gogos Crazy Bones in an agreed arrangement about 20cm from a wall. Players then take turns to throw another Gogo at their opponents line up in an attempt to knock down as many as they can. Points are scored for each Gogo knocked down but no points are gained if you knock down one of your own characters. The winner is the player to score the most points.
