How the Kinect Will Change Gaming 0

Jul12

Over the past decade, there have been many revolutions in the field of gaming. When the next generation systems came out, them being the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii, the step up above what had come before was amazing. It seems like it has been that way since video games first came out, but what is coming next feels different. What is being referred to is the Microsoft Kinect, a system that can be used in conjunction with the Xbox 360. It was recently introduced at the E3 event, and is set to be launched November 4th, 2010. From what we’ve seen so far, it is clear this is going to be incredible.

Although there has always been hype over new game systems, this is different because of the uniqueness of the Kinect. Literally every game system ever released has a controller that you must utilize to interact with the individual games. Although the Playstation 2 had the EyeToy, it was not very advanced and did not have large-scale games made for it. The Kinect is a full-fledged add-on that functions like its own system, and enables you to play games using only your body. Imagine the possibilities of playing your favorite games, except you truly are the player. This adds a whole new level to the world of gaming.

You can imagine there is a lot of potential here. Whether it is a shooting, adventure, sports, or even arcade game, the games for Kinect can make gaming more exciting and interactive than it ever could have been before. More importantly, this will start a trend that brings us further away from using controllers and other external interfaces, and more towards interacting with technology like we do other humans. In the grand scheme of things, this is just the beginning of something that could get really, really cool.

New Iron Man 2 Game for the Wii System 0

Jun2

Though most gamers groan at the mention of games based on popular movies, Iron Man 2 for the Nintendo Wii is something of a diamond in the rough, particularly compared to its predecessor. While it does not really take great strides to further the genre, if you happen to be a fan of the franchise, Iron Man 2 may very well be of interest to you.

Naturally, the game puts you once again in the role of Tony Stark, just after his announcement that he is in fact Iron Man, as seen at the end of the first film. Unfortunately, his good intentions of saving the world are not enough to keep the forces of evil at arm’s length, and you will be forced to suit up to take down everything from giant robots the size of skyscrapers to villains from the comics that have not yet been seen on the silver screen, such as the Crimson Dynamo.

What makes this game particularly entertaining is the fact that in Tony’s workshop, you have a variety of suits at your disposal, each with weapons for you to customize. This also includes for the first time in any game the playability of fan favorite War Machine, who features prominently in the Iron Man film sequel. Customize your arsenal to suit your needs for each mission (you can use any of the vast array of wii gun accessories available), adding a higher degree of strategy to a genre that tends to be severely lacking in it.

With the requirement of planning your strategy and customizing your suits comes a greater deal of time investment to get the most out of the game. If you find yourself running low on batteries during your hours spent in the shoes of playboy Stark, you may be wise to invest in Nintendo Wii accessories that will increase your playtime, such as a reliable battery charger.

The game takes you on a wide array of missions, utilizing your weapons and suits to eliminate your enemies and ultimately save the world. The game becomes fairly formulaic after awhile, but is certainly entertaining and immersive and handles arguably better than its prequel, though at times the flight controls may feel a bit off.

Despite its shortcomings, Ir#on Man 2 Wii stands out among the plethora of games made from feature films as a title that may actually be worth your time. While you may have already dusted off your Wii to pick up some of the other recent titles to hit the console, consider making Iron M#an 2 one of your purchases as well.

The Apple iPad: A Mixed Bag 0

Mar19

The Apple iPad is the latest hot item from Apple. Apple’s Steve Jobs described the iPad as a third type of device between a smart phone and a laptop. That’s what many people thought of the ubiquitous netbook devices that are out, so it stands to reason that Apple wants its iPad to compete in the netbook market. By the looks of it, it should win hands down.

First, the iPad has a touchpad screen. This allows it to have a lot of the functionality of a tablet PC, only in a compact form with Apple technology. The device itself looks like an iPhone on steroids. It has a larger screen and can display and resize Web pages and maps with almost instant speed and has a lot of fun games you can play on it as well. It’ll be pretty important to protect the screen though. There should be tons of accessories for the Apple iPad on the market. A nice iPad bag to carry around the device in would be a great idea. It also works like the iPhone and iPod touch, so there’s not much learning curve when you get your hands on one.

Apple’s iWork Suite has been optimized for use with the iPad’s touch screen, so the device is a veritable productivity tool. Also, with its easy programming framework like the iPhone, developers are chomping at the bit to get new iPad applications to market.

While the Apple iPad has a lot going for it, there are a few things that will hopefully be improved with new versions of its operating system. First, the iPad doesn’t multitask. While this may not be a problem for some, those who habitually have oodles of programs running at the same time, pushing several projects ahead whenever the inspiration comes, you’ll have to reform your ways.

Another thing you’ll miss with the Apple iPad is Flash support. The embedded multimedia offered by Flash just isn’t displayed on the iPad, cheating many of a full Web experience.

The Zagg screen protector for the iPad is an important accessory to have. After spending between $499 and $829 for a new iPad, it’s highly recommended that you protect your precious media player. For $39, an iPad case offers good protection for the device’s frame, but it leaves the screen unprotected. That’s where the Zagg screen protector comes into play.

If you are familiar with some of Apple’s popular products, such as the iPod and iPhone, you may have heard about the Zagg invisible shield. Actually, the iPad shield is available for a large variety of consumer electronics such as PDA’s, mobile phones, media players, navigation systems, and digital cameras. It is one of the leading products that provides the best protection for electronics, including the iPad.

There are several major advantages to this particular iPad skin. The major selling point of this particular screen protector is that it is scratch proof, and guarantees full protection for the iPad. The Zagg invisible shield material was first used in military applications to protect helicopter parts. The Zagg screen protector designed specifically for the iPad offers full body coverage for the iPad, in the front and back. The protector is also very light, transparent, and thin, which doesn’t add excessive weight to your iPad. Some other benefits of the screen protector is better grip for handling the iPad. Additionally, the Zagg protector can be easily removed and replaced without any sticky residue. They also offer a free replacement service; all you have to do is turn in your old, used skin.

The Zagg screen protector for the iPad, or officially known as the invisible shield, will be available for sale once the iPad is released. The Zagg protector that offers full body coverage is priced at $34.99, while the front coverage sells for $24.99. For $99, you can buy the Zagg iPad bundle, which features full body coverage, smartbuds (headphones), and wipes.

Can You Really Get A Free PS3 Bundle? 0

Dec10

If you love to play video games, you know what the ultimate in gaming consoles is, the Sony Play Station 3.  And when you’re going to buy a Play Station, you want to get all of the awesome games that you love along with it.  The best way to get it is through a PS3 bundle.  But can you really get that PS3 free of charge?

There are a lot of sites online that profess that you can.  They claim to offer you a free gaming console of your choice along with your favorite games, shipped right to your door.  But those kinds of sites always make me worry about a scam, and I’m sure they concern you as well.  After all, who in their right mind is going to hand out super expensive gaming consoles like candy?

The answer is that these web sites are real, but don’t expect to see your new Play Station 3 arrive in your mail box next week.  You will be able to qualify to get a new gaming console by completing offers, which you will be rewarded for by having points credited to your account.  When all those points add up to a certain amount, you will then be able to get your new Play Station.

The exact details of the offers involved varies from program to program.  You will have a lot of offers that require you to sign up for services, such as email mailing lists and trial programs.  Some of the offers will require you to pay for them (usually less than ten dollars, but sometimes more) and some will be totally free.  You will also probably get points by referring friends and family members to the program as well.  If you stick with it, you will be able to get that new Play Station and game bundle free of charge.  But the truth is that when you consider the amount of time, effort, and money you will have invested into the program, it might be more worth it for you to simply head out to the store and buy it yourself.
