How Can Parents Prevent Drug Abuse Among Teens 0

Feb18

Drug use is becoming more popular among teenagers; however that is not to say that it hasn’t been around for a long time, the age at which people start using drugs is decreasing. It is important that the parents and guardians of these teenagers know how they can prevent drug abuse among teens from happening, below are a few things they can do to help them

  • Maintain good communication with your children, talk to them about the dangers of drugs, the harmful effects it can take on their lives in all aspects, physically and emotional, it is also important to let them know that they can talk to you whenever they are confused or forced by their peers to use drugs .
  • Strict parental supervision, make an effort to know who your child socializes with ,where they hang out, what they do , set rules about what they can or cant do and be strict on them to follow these rules. Also giving teens a limited allowance will help prevent them from buying drugs, making sure that alcohol and medications kept at home such as painkillers that can be addictive are well accounted for and that the kids don’t have access to them.
  • Family and culture and religion:

Teenagers need to feel like they are a part of something and that they belong somewhere, it is thus important to create a sense of family and love for the teens which lets them know that you love and support them. Religion has also played a very big role in reducing drug and substance abuse among teens by turning their lives around to god.

  • Its has been found that most drug and alcohol abuse occurs between three and six pm when teens are heading home from school with their peers, thus parents can try to encourage their teens to join in extracurricular activities at school or out of school to keep them busy.
  • If you suspect that your child is abusing drugs then you should take them to your family practitioner straightaway. The best case scenario is that this will frighten your child into never taking drugs again although depending on the level of addiction they may have to go through some sort of drug detox.

More About Alcohol Outpatient Treatment 0

Feb12

Many people who need help with addiction issues never get the help that they need in order to change their life for the better.  Anyone who is struggling with a drug problem or an intolerance to alcohol might want to look into getting some help for their problem.  There are many different forms of help that are available out there.  For example, many will go to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment center, where they might stay for 28 days or so.  Another thing people might do is to go see a therapist or a counselor once or twice a week.

There is also the option of outpatient alcohol treatment, however.  This is where the alcoholic or addict would go into a treatment center each day and attend groups, lectures, and therapy, but then go home each night instead of sleeping in the rehab.  So it is close to residential treatment but it is not quite the same thing.

Some people believe that this is not as good as residential treatment, because the vulnerability to relapse is so much higher when people go back home each night.  Addiction has a lot to do with a person’s environment and outpatient treatment does nothing to separate the person from this part of temptation.

On the other hand, outpatient can work out well for some people because they may not be able to afford inpatient treatment, or their insurance might not authorize them for it either.  So in some cases outpatient is the only available help you can get.  And some do well with it, even though the rates of success with outpatient treatment are nothing to write home about.  What needs to happen for success is that a person must be self motivated, and also form a strong bond with others who are in their group therapy sessions in order to make real progress.

Overcome smoking heroin 0

Dec14

I know that a lot of young folks are starting to get into smoking heroin or chasing the dragon. This another term for using heroin. Chasing the dragon started a long time ago in China it refers to placing the heroin on a piece of foil and then applying heat to it, when this happens it begins to move. Therefore you are chasing the dragon so to speak. It does not hurt that it sounds kind of cool to the younger people too.

Another reason for heroin abuse is that it is a lot purer than in the past; in fact I have heard that some counselors are advising their clients to quit shooting heroin and start smoking heroin because it is safer. I am not so sure this is true and I think that anyway you do heroin is dangerous. While we are on the subject we may as well add that it is extremely addicting. I am not saying one will become addicted after using it only once but it can and does happen. I would not be willing to risk a lifetime of misery for one moment of pleasure, lets hope your not willing to take that risk either. Enough said if you want to learn how to stop smoking heroin continue reading and I will give you some suggestions that may help you to do so.

First thing I would do if I wanted to quit smoking heroin is to look for a heroin rehab near me and give them a call and tell them of your plans to stop using. Once you have done this when you get to rehab you can expect to be medically detoxed from heroin, this will be done by a staff of people who are trained in this area. They will use medications to help relieve the pain of heroin withdrawal. This normally takes around 5 days. When you are finished with your detox I would suggest that you go to residential treatment to continue my recovery.

Getting Help for Addiction 0

Dec5

Overcoming drug or alcohol is no trivial matter, as any recovering addict or alcoholic can attest to.  There are several processes that the addict has to go through in order to completely break free from their addiction and start living a new life in recovery.  If it were as simple as putting the drugs down, then addiction would not be the monumental problem that it so often is.  But the fact is that addiction is complicated, and therefore the solution is necessarily complex as well.

The first form of help for addiction almost always starts with a personal decision.  This is really more like a moment of complete surrender, where the addict admits defeat in trying to control their drug use and decides to make a serious change.  Instead of boldly claiming a new direction for their life, the addict is beat down by their own demons in a crushing manner to the point where they become willing to do anything to change.  This is the point of surrender, and no real change can occur if the addict has not reached it.

Next comes the action phase.  The addict or alcoholic has to take real, meaningful, and positive action in order to produce good results in their life.  The decision to get clean and sober means nothing if it is not followed up with immediate action.  What kinds of action qualify?  These would be things such as:

1) Going to rehab or treatment.

2) Seeking help from 12 step meetings or self help groups.

3) Going to a counselor or therapist and taking advice from them and acting on it.

And so on.  These are the kinds of actions that produce results in recovery.  Simply wishing that things were different or vowing to make changes does very little.  In order to really change your life in recovery and overcome addiction, the addict has to take some initiative, ask for help, and then follow through with consistent action.
