Health Insurance Primer – The Basics 0
Health insurance is a well known topic in government. Free health care unfortunately does not exist in the Unites States. If you have a full time job with a company that provides health insurance, then this is the best option for you to obtain insurance. You will be able to cover your family if necessary and the money is taken from each of your paychecks. You will be able to select the level of coverage that you and your family desire through the Human Resource department of your company.
Health insurance is mainly for doctor visits, emergency coverage, and prescription coverage. There are many different types of health insurance, and you can find all the types on the internet or through your company. Depending on how much coverage you have will determine what you will have to pay out of pocket for. For PPO insurance, many times you will have a deductible. This is an amount that you as a policy holder must pay in visits and medications before the insurance company will start to pay for things. The deductible amount is determined before you sign with that insurance carrier so don’t worry about an unknown amount.
A very common term that you will hear when it comes to health insurance is ‘co-payment’. A co-payment is an amount that you will need to pay at every medical visit before you are seen. Usually your primary doctors office visits will be a fixed price and prescriptions will range according to type of medication. Hospital visits have a more expensive co-payment. If you are brought in as an emergency patient, then you may be billed later for your co-payment.
As long as you take this into consideration, you will have a much easier time finding health insurance, than if you were to contact a representative, or even attempt to purchase a policy on your own.
