How the Kinect Will Change Gaming 0
Over the past decade, there have been many revolutions in the field of gaming. When the next generation systems came out, them being the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii, the step up above what had come before was amazing. It seems like it has been that way since video games first came out, but what is coming next feels different. What is being referred to is the Microsoft Kinect, a system that can be used in conjunction with the Xbox 360. It was recently introduced at the E3 event, and is set to be launched November 4th, 2010. From what we’ve seen so far, it is clear this is going to be incredible.
Although there has always been hype over new game systems, this is different because of the uniqueness of the Kinect. Literally every game system ever released has a controller that you must utilize to interact with the individual games. Although the Playstation 2 had the EyeToy, it was not very advanced and did not have large-scale games made for it. The Kinect is a full-fledged add-on that functions like its own system, and enables you to play games using only your body. Imagine the possibilities of playing your favorite games, except you truly are the player. This adds a whole new level to the world of gaming.
You can imagine there is a lot of potential here. Whether it is a shooting, adventure, sports, or even arcade game, the games for Kinect can make gaming more exciting and interactive than it ever could have been before. More importantly, this will start a trend that brings us further away from using controllers and other external interfaces, and more towards interacting with technology like we do other humans. In the grand scheme of things, this is just the beginning of something that could get really, really cool.
