Identity Theft Insurance: Why Not? 0
Some companies just love to capitalize on your fear; they capitalize on your fear of accidents, your fear of car collisions, your fear of health emergencies. They will also capitalize on your fear of heights, fear of water, fear of women, fear of narrow places, fear of crowds and fear of the tooth fairy if they can. Insurance companies will always try to capitalize on whatever the masses are afraid of, and right now, because the media makes identity theft seem like an epidemic, insurance companies now issue identity theft insurances.
The name “identity theft insurance,” may sound reassuring but you have to carefully study what this kind of insurance policy is covering. Getting identity theft insurance may make you feel safer from identity thieves but you might just end up paying for that feeling alone, unless you mindlessly expose your important personal information on every possible source that hackers may use to steal money.
In fact, even if you end up being a victim of identity theft, the insurance company will only pay the expenses that you need in clearing up your self from lawsuits that have been mistakenly filed against you. Insurance companies will not cover the moral damage done on you, they will not recover the damage done on your credit scores and they will most likely also do nothing about the processing of your paper works; you handle that all by yourself, after all their agreement says that they only get to pay for the expenses that will be incurred on the clearing process.
So, if you think that getting an identity theft insurance is really to your best interest, then think again because you might just end up paying for the “feeling of security.” After all, protecting yourself from identity theft is something within your control, unlike car accidents and medical emergencies which you should be applying insurance for.
