Myths And Truths About LED Grow Lights 0

May31

In the world of plant grow lights there are many options to choose from, the problem arises when you try to sift through all of the hype and get to whether or not the grow light that you are about to by is actually worth your hard earned cold hard cash. This is the case with any plant grow light and does not disregard LED grow lights for plants in any way. Just like the rest of the plant grow light products out on the market today all the top LED grow lights have their own hype, myths and truths about them. Today we are going to be looking at what is real about these lights and what is probably for the most part just exaggerated hype with a small amount of truth mixed in.

The number one myth about LED plant lights is that they are the end all greatest thing to hit the market since the invention of the grow light. There is some truth to this but it is not to say that LEDs are the only way to go or that they are the best by far on the market. LEDs are ahead of other grow lights but they have their limitations and in some areas are inferior to other grow lights such as the HID grow light. The reason that this myth does hold any ground is that LED lights do produce almost no heat when in operation, draw a quarter of the energy of other grow lights, last for a very long time and are easy enough for the new grower to immediately begin growing their new garden.

The second largest myth about LED lights that is going around is that they cover the same amount of area that HID plant grow lights do. This for the most part is false as the light produced by HID or high intensity discharge grow lights is indeed stronger from farther away than LED grow lights. The only place that this myth holds any kind of clout is when you measure the area a LED light can effectively grow a plant to the area that a HID can. In some studies the LED is equally as effective as the HID but in others it is half as effective at covering the same amount of space as the HID.
