NFL Sunday Ticket vs Red Zone Channel 0

Apr14

One of the main reasons people pick Direct TV service over cable is the NFL Sunday Ticket package, which is tied into a contract with the satellite TV provider. If you have Dish Network, Comcast, Time Warner or any other cable TV provider, you are pretty much locked out from this out of market sports package. Many have inquired about getting Sunday Ticket online, but even that has not become widely available, being offered to those living in Manhattan only for the 2009 season. But there is a new channel offered by the NFL that can give you quite a bit of action from other games around the league.

This new network is called the Red Zone channel, and it debuted during the 2009 season. This is a different channel than the Direct TV RedZone channel which is produced for the Superfan packge. This Red Zone channel is actually produced by the NFL for distribution to all major cable and satellite providers.

It does follow a similar format to the Direct TV version however. As teams move into scoring position, the network cuts to that particular game as they approach the end zone. Once they either score or are stopped, the Red Zone channel moves to the next imminent scoring threat. The channel is great for fantasy football players or those who have a little money on the games, as they can keep up on the latest action.

The best part is that the network costs much less than the NFL Sunday Ticket package, usually around $5 a month depending on how your provider packages the channel. Last season satellite provider Dish Network and cable companies like Comcast offered the Red Zone channel, but unfortunately those who are Direct TV subscribers could not get the channels as they want people to buy the more expensive Sunday Ticket plus Superfan package.
